I am a professional photographer and little sister (29) to a fantastic brother, Jon, (37) who has inspired me in every aspect of my life. I have been working on a photography project about the beauty of Down Syndrome as a way to give back to the community that has given selflessly to me.
I work as an editorial photographer for magazines and newspapers around the world. I photograph celebrities and models, but nothing is as beautiful to me as the sincere honesty, integrity and pride that I have seen in people with Down Syndrome. It is my hope to share with you the beauty that I see.
I will post my portraits regularly at http://letusnowpraise.downsyndrome.com and I am always looking for willing volunteers– people of all ages who have Down Syndrome. If you know anyone who may be interested or who has a friend or family member who may like to participate, please contact me through email (downsproject@gmail.com) I am happy to travel to any volunteers.
For those interested, I have personal and professional references in addition to examples of work. For this project I am working directly with individuals associated with The National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS) — which if you don’t know it, should check it out. It is an amazing resource for families or friends of people with Downs. I am closely affiliated with them since my mother, who besides being the best resource of all on the topic of Down Syndrome, is also the Vice President at NDSS.
I suppose wanting to change perceptions of and lifestyles around people with developmental disabilities and Down Syndrome runs in the family.
